The Color Wheel - part 2

Is your scrapbooking world more colorful after the reading February's article on The Color Wheel? In Part 2 of The Color Wheel articles we'll discuss the Diad and Tetrad color schemes.

Diad is using two colors that are two colors apart on The Color Wheel. For the Sleep Tight layout I chose yellow and green. In the layout you will see that the yellow color is a tint of yellow. The green color is a tone of green.

On The Color Wheel the Pure Color is at the top of the Wheel. The next section down is the tint of the pure color. Next is the section for the tone of the color and the last section is the shade of the color.

A Tetrad is a contrast of four or more colors on the Wheel. This choice offers a wide variety of color scheme options. In the layout Family Week I had so many pictures from the trip. There were so many color choices that I couldn't decide what would work best. That's where the Tetrad color scheme came in handy. I was surprised when I turned the wheel to blue and one of the choices was Violet because I had photos with a tint of Violet. The third color in the Tetrad was orange. Since there was no orange in the photos I opted to use brown, which is a shade of orange. Seeing that the photos called for green and green wasn't in this particular color scheme I chose the shade of yellow, which is the moss color.

Using The Color Wheel and the different schemes has made my scrapbooking so much easier. Instead of spending hours, sometimes days, trying to decide about color I now go immediately to The Color Wheel and enjoy seeing color schemes that I might not have thought of.
